Conditioner Washing/ Co-Washing

So I had been really intrigued by the whole "Wen Cleansing Conditioner" commercial and the recent youtube videos on it but really who wants to spend that much money on a conditioner? I dunno, just seems silly to rinse your money down the drain, literally. So I decided to look up some cheaper alternatives and came across a phenomenon called Conditioner Washing or Co-Washing for short.

Pretty much this entailed the same thing as the whole Wen brand, using a conditioner to cleanse the hair, leaving it cleaned but not dried out. Sounded amazing to me and my dry, course, thick, color treated, crazy hair. I immediately researched as much as I could and tried it out. I have been doing it for over 2 months now and I am so pleased with it I just had to share. My hair is is so much better condition and for only a $1.00! WOW! I'm in love! haha

****I really recommend trying this out if you have dry, damaged, course, color-treated, chemical-treated, frizzy, (any of the above) hair!****

If you want to try it out you will need:

  • 1 Cheapo Conditioner (Suave Milk and Honey is the most recommended. I stole my husbands Suave for Men Strengthening Conditioner and it worked amazingly so I'm going to stick with that. Both are only $1.00 US) It has to be not a very good or moisturizing conditioner. If the conditioner is too good your hair will just turn out oily. This happened to me when I tried the Suave Fresh Mountain Strawberries Conditioner, it is not a good choice. Other ones I have heard work well are the V05 Moisture Milks Conditioner.
  • 1 Good Conditoner for Your Dry Ends. Does not have to be expensive. I like the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration it's only 3$.

Co-Washing How To:

1. Pick up one of the cheap conditioners I have recommended above.

2. While in shower, place a pretty good amount of cheap conditioner in hands and work into roots all over head. ONLY ROOTS! Be very careful not to work through the rest of your hair. That is what the good conditioner is for.

3. Scrub roots vigorously for about 5 minutes with conditioner. Do not skimp out on this step the scrubbing is what gets your hair clean. If you don't scrub well enough you won't get your hair clean.

4. Rinse out that cheap conditioner VERY thoroughly. VERY thoroughly, if not the hair will be left oily and lifeless.

5. Add a good conditioner, (does not have to be expensive, I use Herbal Essences Hello Hydration 3$ a bottle) JUST TO THE ENDS OF THE HAIR NONE ON TOP, If you add more conditioner on top your hair will be oily.

6. Wash your body, shave etc.

7. Rinse Good conditioner from ends very well and get out the the shower. Pretty Simple, huh? :D

NOTE: ******If your hair turns out oily either you didn't scrub well enough or you didn't rinse well enough, or the cheapo conditioner you are using is to good. This will not work if you use a good conditioner in place of the cheapo one. :D*****

Hope you guys enjoyed this post on Conditioner Washing. Thanks for stopping by!

A Triumphant Return With A Tag...

Though morning sickness is still taking a major toll on me and so is my lighting, trust me when I say there is much work going on behind the scenes of the EricaLeigh777 Youtube Channel. It's seems no matter what I try the videos never turn out where you can quite see what I'm doing. So there continues to be much tweaking behind the scenes this week as I am trying my best to get a new makeup video to you. And I want to say thank you to all of you who have asked about me and missed me. I appreciate it more than you know. Since I'm at my wits end with the camera for tonight, I thought I would find a way to update this thing. In my search for something to write I came across this tag (an old tag) that I wasn't particularly tagged for but I wanted to do it anyway and I thought it would be a neat way to get people up to speed on what I am enjoying at the moment. Let me know your thoughts and favorites in the comments...

Maxfactor to End Sales in US Early 2010

Bad news makeup lovers... due to less than stellar sales in the US, Maxfactor will be pulling it's line from all US stores. The brand will still be sold worldwide just not in the US.

Proctor and Gamble says the brand will be completely gone in the US by early 2010. But you are likely to see your favorite stores stop carrying it anytime between now and then. If I were you and there was anything I needed or enjoyed I'd be stocking up while I still could.

Due to the announcement Drugstore.com is having a buy one get one 50% off on all Max Factor items.

Makeup Tips by Erica

Hey guys! So I am uploading a video right now full of some awesome makeup tips to help you guys out. I'm about to go get ready and film a tutorial and I am thinking of doing a blog post review on the China Glaze and OPI nail polish I picked up. Everyone says they are the best and that because China Glaze has hardeners in it it will help your nails not break but I have to say I wasn't that impressed. :(

Anywho here are the Makeup Tips I wrote out. Let me know if they are helpful. :D

Hey guys! Today I am going to let you in on a few makeup tips I thought might help you out. I do many videos on makeup application and throw in tips here and there but I thought It might help to put a bunch of tips in one place. These are only a few of hundreds of tips. Subscribe to my youtube if you find this helpful and leave a comment here or there if you would like me to do another one of these again in the future. Now onto the tips...

Before you begin your makeup application you will need to prepare in a few ways. Number one will be the most obvious. Picking the makeup you want to use.

If you are makeup beginner or just like to play it safe with your makeup then go with neutrals. These are colors such as tan, brown, gold, plum...Colors that will enhance your eyes without drawing as much attention as say a bright orange eyeshadow would. I'm a firm believer that anyone can wear any color but it's always good to have a neutral look prepared for places like work or school or even those lazy mornings when you just don't want to bother with picking out colors.

Here are some tips on picking your perfect shades that will make your eyes pop without making you look clownish.

For Brown eyes, I love going with a golden color. If you have even the smallest gold flecks in your eyes this will bring that out and also it will complement the brown and show off the color. Brown eyes tend to be forgotten but never forget it is all about color choices. If you pick a complementary color you can pull the attention to your eyes. Brown, pink, blue and gold help and will brighten the eyes to make them pop. For even more drama do a more dramatic eye look and a subtle or nude colored lip.

For Blue Eyes: Blue Eyes already pop the most out of any eye coloring but if you want to bring them out even more try using browns, rose and violets. The warm coloring will contrast and bring out the blue. Also try using a white eyeliner on the bottom lashline. This will look nice with any eye shade but particularly brings out the lightness of bright blue eyes.

For Green or Hazel eyes, I love using purples, plums, mauves, lilacs, golds, bronzes, greens, browns, pinks, and peaches. Green eyes are really the most versatile when it comes to shades that will not take too much attention away from the natural eye color, but they can also look washed out very easily. Try to avoid cool colors such as whites, silvers, blues and pastels.

If you are going for a neutral look I will always suggest a medium to dark brown eyeliner. If you want a true brown that doesn't wear off or smudge during the day and you are comfortable using a brush with eyeliner I suggest trying the Wet n Wild Creme Eyeliner. Available for around 3.99 at most supercenters and drugstores. If you would rather stick with pencil formulas try the Revlon Colorstay Pencil Liners available in many shades for around 7.99 a piece depending upon the store you purchase it.

As for mascara I would also stick with a brown or black brown. Black is fantastic but it can look harsh against browns and neutral looks. Especially during the early day. For the most natural look steer clear but if you dont mind the spotlight brush away.

Blush: Your best bet with is to find your own natural blush coloring and mimic it with your blush color. Step outside on a cold day, when you come back in look in the mirror to gauge the color of your cheeks, or check out your cheeks after a brisk walk or work out. Are they more plum, pink, peach? This blush color will give you the most natural looking result.

Foundation: Foundation is the trickiest of all makeup because it is the hardest to get right. If you are going for a natural look though you may be in luck. If your skin is in good shape and you don't need the full coverage some foundations offer try a tinted moisturizer. These will give you very little coverage but are quick to apply in the morning and will help to conceal any small flaws. Need more coverage but don't want it too heavy? Apply any foundation with a wet sponge and you will get a sheerer coverage. It also helps blendability so if you do happen to fudge the color choice up a little bit it will be a lot less noticeable.

Eyebrows: Overplucked? Pretty much anyone can get away with using a light taupe eyeshadow to fill in their brows in a pinch. Try putting some on the end of a q-tip if you dont have a brush and only placing where brows are sparse. Eyebrow pencils can look too harsh for an everyday look unless blended out well.

Make sure you always start out your makeup application with a clean and moisturized face as well as clean hands. Bacteria and germs are bad for your skin especially when they are stuck under makeup all day.

After that you can go straight to applying foundation or you can use a primer. A lot of companies have been making "makeup primers" as of late. While many argue they are fantastic others argue they are useless. I would suggest only shelling out the dough if you are having a problem with your makeup wearing off or you have super oily skin. Using a primer can dramatically cutdown how many times you have to blot your nose during the day. Of that I'm sure.
Examples of Primers:
Laura Geller Spackle
Mac Prep n Prime
Smashbox photo finish

Want eyeshadow to last longer? Many companies are also producing eyeshadow "primers" I swear by them. They help eyeshadow stick better, blend easier and the colors will look a lot more vibrant but at 16$ a pop some people think it is just too much. Instead try using saline contact solution to wet your sponge applicator or brush when you put it on. The salt in the solution will help the shadow adhere better to your eye therefore making it last longer. Of course this will not be as big of a difference as if you had used a "primer" but it's worth a shot. Remember not to dip a wet brush directly on an eyeshadow or it can ruin it. Instead take a credit card or piece of cardboard and scrape off a tiny bit onto a tissue and dip your brush onto it, this way you wont ruin your shadow.:D Or you can try a long wearing shadow. The best drugstore one I have found are the Revlon Colorstay 12 hour eyeshadow. Those babies really can last all day.

Apply chapstick to your lips as least 10 minutes before you apply your lipstick. This will give it time to sink in and will help lipstick glide on more smoothly. If you apply it right before then the lipstick will just slide off or wont go on at all. If you don't apply chapstick sometimes the lipstick will accentuate any dry skin you have on your lips. And don't forget many lipsticks are drying so putting on chapstick before you apply will lock in those moisturizing ingredients all day.

Want to set your makeup when you are done? Trying lightly misting your face with water. This will set the makeup and get rid of a powdery look.

Try using a brush to apply your face powder it wont look as cakey as it can when applied with a puff.

In a hurry? Try just mascara and a flavored lipgloss. Your eyes will look open

and awake and the smell of your lipgloss alone will get you out the door.

Want a longer lasting lip alternative? Try a lip stain. Your lips will literally be stained with the color. Don't like a matte finish? Apply a clear gloss or chaptstick over top.

Want to make eyes appear larger and more awake? Focus your mascara most on the outer lashes.

Want dewy skin? Trying mixing a little whiteish gold loose eyeshadow in with your foundation in the morning. Just enough to give a glow.

Want to make your face look smaller? Add a matte bronzer just under your cheekbones to slim the face and then just apply your regular blush where you normally would.

Have enlarged pores? Avoid using glitter or shimmer on your cheeks or it will accentuate them even more. Try matte blushes and bronzers for a more smooth skinned look.

Want to see another one with more tips? Let me know! Thanks for reading! :D

So lately I have been finding it harder and harder to make time for videos and to find inspiration for videos. I guess I have what one would call "video block". I'm very happy to say that I have been getting out a little more and getting to see a lot of family I haven't seen in a while and though it has taken some of my time, it has really helped my demeanor. I feel so much better and my depressive rut is drifting away. Then the few moments I have had to spare as of late, I log on YouTube and see that a lot of negativity has been going on. Honestly, I don't let that bother me. I understand the reason those videos were made and anyone who says they don't understand must be very new to the YouTube makeup community.

Though many of us know that gurus are hard pressed for time it does feel as if you become "friends", like you know them because you have watched them for so long. And of course it would hurt to feel as if you were ignored by a friend. Maybe people should not feel that way but it doesn't mean they don't. I do think people should expect less of gurus but I do think gurus should try a little harder as well. So I can't say I am on either side of this one. But that's not the reason I am writing today.

The biggest reason YouTube has kind of been put on the back burner for me as of late is the subject of originality. I feel as if the YouTube makeup community has become very uninspired and repetitive.

For example: One week "Guru X" posts a video about a certain brand of makeup, soap, nail polish...anything really...and the next week every video you see will be of that particular thing. I just feel as if people have become very uninspired therefore have shifted to hopping on any and all bandwagons that may pass by. Whether it be a certain palette that is all the rage or what.

It really bothers me. I guess that is where my artistic spirit jumps into high gear because I don't like being the same as anyone else. I hate being compared. I pride myself as being a very original person. Not to say that just because one guru gets something others cant but it seems as if YouTube videos these days are a repetition of a select few brands and companies over and over. No variety.

Maybe I am the only one who feels this way...maybe not but I ask you my dear readers... If you would like to see reviews for some other brands you are interested in please, PLEASE!, leave me a comment below with a link or a brand name. I am desperate to get out of this makeup rut and will gladly give them a try.

Thanks for listening to my crazy musings at 4 in the morning.
xoxo Erica

Hello my lovely ladies...

Well girls, if you couldn't tell I get bored with things quick. My youtube channel, my backgrounds in my videos.... and especially this blog. I am never happy with the way it looks even after I spend 12 hours fiddling with it. I guess I am such a perfectionist I am never happy. But really I find myself putting off posting here thinking "I will make it look better later and then post."

And then I never end up posting... :S

BUT!!! Today is a new day and I have a lot of great things going on so I figured why not start this beautiful day with a post to the few lovely readers I have and let them know some of the exciting news.

Today is a great day for a couple reasons...

Number One: I will be hopping in the tub and making a video announcing my very first ever contest today and boy is it a nice one. I'll be posting up pictures of the prizes later today right before the video goes up so you guys will have a special sneak peak.

Number Two: The sun is shining so beautifully through my windows I am almost sure I will have good lighting for the videos I record today. :D

Number Three: I have a blogtv tonight at 6PM EST. I love blogtv. It is the neatest thing to get to actually talk to you guys about everything. I love it and I love hearing about your lives.

And Number Four: I have an unlimited supply of coffee.

Yup. Good Day. Good Day Indeed.

Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation Review

Didn't have the time to do a video on this one so off to blogland it goes!

Product Name:
Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse (US)
Maybelline Dream Satin Foundation (UK)

I picked it up in a value pack from Wal-Mart. The pack included a Dream Matte Powder in the matching shade along with it for only $8.00US but by itself it will set you back between $8.00-$12.00US depending on the store.

Packaging and Look:

The packaging is great. Not only is it in a nice glass bottle but it comes with a pump. This will help you use less product and it is also more sanitary. As you can see by the picture next to the first paragraph it comes with a cover for the pump as well. The pump is also lockable which is fantastic for travel but it does feel a little flimsy. The pump may break some time on down the road so do keep that in mind.

The look of the labeling is pretty plain no frills about this one but I do like the fact that the ingredients take up the entire back label instead of being written very small on the main bottom like they are trying to hide it, many companies do that and if you have bad eyes like me it's annoying if you are interested. :D

I really don't like the fact that they write airbrush finish directly on the bottle. To me that is a little misleading as no liquid foundation can be that light/natural or give that truly poreless effect as a $700US airbrush machine can. But maybe it's close? Keep reading and find out!

This is a thicker liquid foundation it almost feels like a gel mixed with a mousse. It has the smooth feel of a gel but you can definitely feel the little air bubbles in it like you can in the original dream mousse foundation. This consistency makes it very easy to apply ( as in feels super smooth and easy going on) but can cause streaking if you aren't very careful.

Color Selection:
This is where I was really let down by this product. As you can see I picked up Light #2: Classic Ivory and it is far from light. The lightest shade, Light 1 is VERY pale and very pinkish toned. Then Light 2 is pretty dark and very beige toned. There is really nothing in between. And then Light 3 is way lighter than light 2 and pink toned again. It makes no sense. I could not find a color in this line that worked for me at all. So you may have trouble as well.

--Lovely Matte Finish
--Great packaging design. Very Hygienic.
--Ingredients listed on the bottle in big enough print to read :D
--Very hydrating to the skin...
--Does make large pores look a lot better, not completely disappear but better.

--Even with a primer this foundation lasted no more than an hour on my skin. I was a complete oil slick.
--Color selection is horrible in my opinion.
--Very streaky application, just took too much time to get it to look right.
--Definitely oxidized and turned orange on me.

Overall Opinion:
This is definitely not an airbrush machine...but it helps. I experienced no breakouts with this foundation which really surprised me but I think this would be a better foundation for people with dry to normal skin. It is very hydrating but with oily skin that just accentuates the shininess. I think on someone with dry to normal skin it probably wouldn't oxidize either because the oil is what causes that problem.

Overall if you have dry to normal skin and are looking for a hydrating foundation that does reduce the look of pores I would say give it a shot. I warn you the colors are completely out of order so do keep that in mind if you decide to try it. And it may take a little bit to get the application down so it's not streaky but if you do find a color match I think you will be extremely happy with it. ( But it from a store with a good return policy so you can find your color! Or I even heard you can buy tester cards on ebay :D ) It's super affordable, and really does give a better finish then some $30 foundations.

But to all you oily skinned girls, stay away from this one. It just slides off your face in a matter of minutes.

And make sure you get it all off when you wash your face at night because I found it would stick in some places better than others, especially around the hairline it was a little difficult to remove for some reason.

So yeah, there's my review. Hope it was helpful in some way. Now if only someone would make the perfect matte finish foundation for us oily girls. *sigh* Hey! A girl can dream can't she?

'Til next time,
xoxo Erica

Revamped Blog...

Well as you can clearly see the blog is looking a little spiffier today. That would be due to me staying up all night and reworking the html to make it match my youtube channel. Though it was hard work I must say I am quite proud. I think one of the reasons I posted so sparingly here was because I really didn't like the look of my blog and with classes, didn't really have the time to change it.

But lately I have been reading some great blog posts and noticing how much more subscriber interaction there is in blogging. I really like talking to my subscribers and I love the fact that if I don't have time to make a video on something I can always just update or swatch here, that way I never have to go long without updating something. Plus there are always little prodcuts I am testing out here and there that I can talk about here if an entire video would be too much.

If this is your first time visiting my blog,... Welcome! My name is Erica and I am a self proclaimed makeup junkie. I do instructional makeup videos on youtube as well as reviews on different prodcuts. If you have not checked out my youtube channel please do. Click here: MY YOUTUBE

Since the revamping of my youtube channel has inspired me to do some great videos lately I am hoping this will do the same for my writing. Nothing perks me up and gets my creative juices flowing like sunflowers. There is something about them that just makes me insanely happy.

This coming week I will be recording a few tag videos as well as some hair tutorials and makeup tutorials. So be on the lookout for new vids coming soon. I also have a couple of reviews that will be exclusively on my blog and I am working on those as well. I think spring has really enlivened my spirit and really given me the vigor to put a lot more effort into my online hobbies. And for some reason that has given me a lot of peace. I really feel like I am where God needs me to be and I really feel like I am helping. That is a very nice feeling. I thank each and every one of you for subscribing, watching and reading and I only hope I can live up to your expectations.

Here's to updating often!
